What is Web 2.0 and how has it changed the communication landscape?

How do new technologies impact the arts? Artist Favianna Rodriguez and filmmaker Reed Rickert are known as early adopters and documenters of this very intersection between art and technology. The duo was commissioned by The San Francisco Foundation and Grants for the Arts/San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund through support from The Wallace Foundation to investigate the question. Riffing on footage taken from participant interviews at the 2008 convening, Rodriguez and Rickert developed CREATIVITY IN THE DIGITAL AGE, a short video that mimics the feel of online discourse.

Formatted to both be a part of internet dialogue and to demonstrate the manner in which internet consensus is built, CREATIVITY IN THE DIGITAL AGE pulls out common ideas shared by the cultural workers, artists, and arts aficionados interviewed. In a group narrative compiled from multiple individual narratives, each talking head contributes a sound bite to each of the main themes: audience development, content sharing, archiving, and accessibility. Image processing slightly distorts the speakers' appearance and makes them more generic, imitating the manner in which internet debate masks superficial identity and highlights voice. CREATIVITY IN THE DIGITAL AGE will be available to view, download, or embed at online distribution points, and the artists encourage all viewers to participate in the dialogue and in comments.
